People,
tents, motor homes, and easy ups packed the Beaumont Sports park
on June 12th and 13th at the first Relay for Life event in the pass
area. Beaver Medical Group sponsored the event and a team.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed
to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs
of the American Cancer Society.
Teams came together to build community spirit, to
honor loved ones and fight cancer and had fun in the process.
All together, the Beaumont Relay for Life raised over $150,000,
far exceeding the American Cancer Societys goal of $36,000.
In fact, the total amount raised broke the record for first time
Relays in California. While raising money, the event also aimed
to raise awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment
and patient support.
Beaver Medical Group also participated with a booth
in the Road to Prevention area, passing out bananas,
trail mix and nutrition information on Saturday.
Nancy Parrish, Banning Manager, helped organize Beaver
Medical Groups team of 24 people. The Relay for Life events
last 24 straight hours. Each team keeps at least one team member
on the track at all times. Many participants camp out for the night.
Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost
to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will
be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.
Over one million people get cancer each year. Approximately
one out of every two American men and one out of every three American
women will have some type of cancer at some point during their lifetime.
Anyone can get cancer at any age; however, about 77% of all cancers
are diagnosed in people age of 55 and older.
Today, millions of people are living with cancer or
have been cured of the disease. The sooner a cancer is found and
the sooner treatment begins, the better a patient's chances are
of a cure.
The Preventive Care Task
Force at Beaver Medical Group has guidelines
that help you work with your physician to assess your risk and detect
cancer and other diseases early on. Read about the preventive care
program.
