Beaver Advantage Health Center successfully held a
Grand Opening and Health Fair for the public on Saturday March 18th
located at 1600 E. Citrus Avenue, Suite A in Redlands (map
and directions) .
Staff worried about attendance while a rainstorm poured the night
before and was forecast to continue through Saturday. Despite the
odds, the sun shined through the clouds Saturday morning and staff
set up all the activities outdoors.
Hundreds of people came to enjoy the festivities.
Moms brought the kids to enjoy the bounce house, slide, and face-painting.
Jellybean the clown entertained the kids with balloon creations
and caricatures. Seniors especially enjoyed finding out their results
for total cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, body fat and
grip strength at the health fair.
Representatives from the Redlands Chamber of Commerce also arrived
by noon to perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Advantage physicians,
managers, Fred Hollaus, Dr. Flynn, and Dr. Ounanian posed for a
picture while John Goodman, CEO cut the ribbon. Of course, free
food was a big attraction. Leonards Catering grilled chicken,
trip-tip, and hot southern style links with beans, potato salad
and rolls. Annettes Markets provided fruits and vegetables
and over 500 cupcakes
A DJ provided an upbeat atmosphere with great music throughout
the event and announced the raffle prize winners every half-hour.
Near the end of the event, he even had people shaking all
about in a hokey pokey.
Most everyone walked through the facility on a guided tour. They
learned that the Primary Care Physicians at Beaver Advantage Health
Center work together in care teams using a new "advanced access"
system. The staff make every effort for patients to be seen by their
own doctor whenever they need an appointment! If a patients
primary care physician is not available, Beaver Advantage Health
Center patients can choose to see another physician from the same
care team,
which include:
Care Team 1:
Dr. Michelle Anderson, Pediatrics
Dr. Roy Smith, Pediatrics
Care Team 2:
Dr. Paul Chen, Internal Medicine
Dr. Wesley Hoenshell, Family Medicine
Dr. Michael Wilson, Internal Medicine
Care Team 3:
Dr. Stanley Cho, Family Medicine
Dr. Melissa Gutierrez, Family Medicine
Dr. Gregory Jones, Family Medicine
Beaver Advantage Health Center is a division of Beaver Medical
Group. Patients still have access to all of Beaver Medical Group's
services such as the after-hours Nurse Advice Unit, Extended Care
Centers, and Health Education programs. Beaver Advantage primary
care physicians can refer patients to specialists within the Beaver
Medical Group network.
Employees giving the tours explained the unique features of Beaver
Advantage. Guides pointed out that the Patient Service Associates
in the registration area check in patients and notify the MAs electronically
that they have arrived. A pre-registration process prior to arrival
helps to reduce waiting in line. The tour stopped in front of the
Patient Representatives office in the lobby. The Patient Representative
provides new patient orientations and can help with any questions.
The tours went to the care team areas and there they learned that
each physician has two MAs. One answers the phone and makes appointments
for more personal and faster service, while the other rooms patients
and takes vital signs. Inside the Care Team station, the MAs use
a color coded schedule so they know where patients are, and for
how long. Refill requests come in directly to the care team for
faster turnaround.
Tour
guides also explained that each care team area has a LVN to assist
the team and doctors with procedures. Lab equipment lets nursing
staff perform strep, pregnancy, anemia and bladder infection screenings
in just a few minutes. The portable tablets were displayed which
the doctors can use to pull up patient test results.
The tour walked through the laboratory and x-ray room. Finally,
attendees learned about the Check-Out Area, where a Patient Service
Associate can check out cash paying patients. The Associates can
also answer questions about statements and post payments on-site
to reduce billing errors.
Many people on the tour commented about the pleasing, warm colors
and the design which is beautifully laid out to provide privacy.
